Getting Vim compiled with +clipboard.

The other day I was trying to reinstall vim on my mac (so I could get it recompiled with the clipboard add-on) and I came across this issue:

You-Air:.ssh you$ brew install vim

==> Downloading http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/v/vim/vim_7.4.430.orig.tar.gz

curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found

Error: Failed to download resource "vim"

Download failed: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/v/vim/vim_7.4.430.orig.tar.gz

After a couple of minutes looking for possible solutions I realise that brew was pointing to stale urls (doh!).

So running the snippet below should do the trick:

You-Air:.ssh you$ brew update

But wait a second! Reinstalling vim (7.4) still still gets me a -clipboard flag, looks like it was compiled (shame on you Apple!).

You-Air:.ssh juan$ vim --version | grep clipboard

-clientserver -clipboard +cmdline_compl +cmdline_hist +cmdline_info +comments

 -xterm_clipboard -xterm_save

So it’s still pointing to the old 7.3 vim… At this point restarting the terminal will  do the trick!

Happy copy and pasting!
